Frequently Asked Questions

  • What kind of support do you offer?

I provide specialist perinatal support for parents during pregnancy, birth, and the postnatal period — especially when the experience is high-risk, complicated, or has been traumatic. This can include talking through your birth experience, helping you understand what happened, supporting emotional recovery, and guiding you through future pregnancies with confidence.

Do you only work with people who’ve had traumatic births?

No. While I specialise in supporting those who’ve experienced challenging or unexpected situations, I’m here for anyone who feels they need extra understanding, guidance, or reassurance.

When is the best time to contact you — during pregnancy or after birth?

Anytime. Some people reach out during pregnancy to prepare for birth or a planned procedure. Others contact me weeks, months, or even years after giving birth. There’s no “too soon” or “too late.”

  • How is your approach different to seeing a midwife or a doctor?

Your NHS or hospital care team are in charge of your medical needs and my contribution does not replace this. However, I have seen, over many years, how under-funded postnatal services have become. Families frequently find it hard to imagine ‘life after labour’ and then, when the support is so desperately required…sat staring at your new baby (or babies)… it simply isn’t there.

Will you replace my NHS or hospital care team?

No. I work alongside and never instead of your health professionals. I can help you prepare questions, understand medical information and feel confident and empowered in your choices.

Do you offer in-person and online support?

Yes. I work both face-to-face for local clients and online for those further away or who prefer remote sessions.

  • How do I arrange a session with you?

Simply book online or get in touch via my contact form, email, or phone. We’ll talk about what you need, then agree on a time together — I don’t use an automatic booking calendar, so you’ll always deal with me directly.

Do I need a referral from my GP or midwife?

No referral is needed. You can contact me directly whenever you’re ready.

    How much does it cost?

My fees vary depending on the type and length of support. I’ll always be clear about costs before we book anything.

    How do I pay?

Either follow the link when booking or I can send you a link

  • What if I’m not ready to talk about my experience?

That’s absolutely fine. You’re in control of the pace. Sometimes our first session is simply about building trust and helping you feel safe to share.

NB if you feel extreme fear or overwhelming trauma then re-living this can be detrimental and you should seek medical support before debriefing

I feel ashamed or like I should “just get over it” — is that normal?

Yes, it’s very common to feel that way after a difficult birth. But your feelings are valid, and there’s no timeline for recovery. Seeking help is a sign of strength, not weakness.

Can my partner or family join the session?

Yes. If you’d like someone to be present for support, they’re very welcome. I offer partner debrief sessions as a separate service.

  • Can I record our online sessions?

To protect your privacy and ensure our sessions feel safe and confidential, I kindly ask that you do not record our consultations — whether audio, video, or screenshots — unless we have both agreed in advance. This helps create a space where you can speak openly, knowing our conversation will remain between us.
If you’d like to remember key points, I can provide a written PDF as a follow-up service, detailing agreed plans, decisions etc.
